Today is Sophie's birthday. I love this day because I get to celebrate her existence, and I don't know what I would do without it. Sophie is my best friend, but I think of her as my sister. Here are ten of many things I love about her.
Our matching humor. When I make jokes around other friends, none of them seem to understand it. But when I make jokes around Sophie, even if it doesn't make sense to me, she always gets it, and I love it.
Our similar interests. One of the main reasons why Sophie and I became such good friends is because of how similar we are. We are almost the same person. We both have the same taste in music, movies, and much more. Yet somehow we always argue over what to watch or listen to.
Her soul. We always seem to be thinking the same thing, even though her mind is completely different from mine. It is unique and scrupulous, while also sweet and tender. Her soul is what truly makes her a great friend, and I am forever grateful for the things that sculpted it.
Her confidence. Though she can be shy and reserved, she is also the most confident person I know. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be writing this. She has taught me how to love myself and shown me the beauty in life, and has pushed me to become a better version of myself. I am an entire new person because of her, and I could never thank her enough for that.
Her thoughtfulness. Sophie seems to know me better than myself, and is always sending me things she knows I will like. On her constant trips to Berkeley, she will ask if I want anything from the record stores. She lets me borrow her clothes like I am her sister, and knows what I will ask to take. It is almost like we share the same mind.
How she knows everything. She is the smartest person I know, and not just in school, although her grades compared to mine make me look like a five-year-old. Sophie is like a mom; she knows all. I can ask questions even Einstein wouldn't know, and she can answer it in a second. Her brain is like a carnival.
How hard-working she is. Sophie is a competitive gymnast, runner, and pianist. She works like a dog, constantly pushing herself to do better, which I don't think is possible since she is perfect at everything she does. On top of all those things, she also writes, reads, and watches movies like it's her job. She is like superwoman; someone I aspire to be like.
How I can tell her anything. Sophie is one of the only friends I can trust with my life. I can and always do tell her everything, and she never fails to listen. She has always supported me no matter what and gives me advice even when I don't want it. She is straightforward and truthful; two qualities everyone needs in a friend. When I rant to her, I know she won't repeat it to anyone, and I am lucky to have that.
How close we are. She is basically my family, and it is rare to go a week without seeing her. We know almost everything about each other if not everything. We have a connection that is hard to come by, and it happened effortlessly. Not only do I love her, but so does my family, because she is like one of us. We are glued together.
Her existence. Sophie is everything and more anyone could ever want in a friend. She is kind, light-hearted, friendly, and intelligent. She is my #1 muse and I can turn to her anytime. We have only known each other 3 years, but it feels like my whole existence. My life has completely flipped since I met her and we have grown up together. I can never repay her for everything she has done for me, but I can openly explain my thankfulness for her by publishing a list for her, about her.
