Week 5: Rock N' Roll - Addy

Every person on this Earth has something different about them, something that takes over their life. For some people, that thing is a sport, hobby, or even person. For me, it is something universal, something otherworldly: music.

People don't usually think too deeply about music since it is quite literally everywhere. Let's be honest. Everyone likes music, whether they listen to it daily or weekly. But what about those who love it? What about those who give their life to it? Music is the most diverse thing on this planet. Genres, instruments, lyrics, every song is different in its own way, and that's what makes it so beautiful. Anyone can be an artist: there are no limits on what you can do with it or what it does with you. It is like an entire planet.

Growing up, music was always playing in the house, ranging from country and pop to rock and hair metal. As I got older, my tastes changed, and I found myself entranced by the wonders of rock n' roll. In just one summer I discovered over 50 bands, but there was one I felt myself amazed by most of all. That band was, and still is, Metallica. To most, Metallica is just another heavy metal band that turned basic, but to me, it is my reason. My reason for the way I am, the way I act, and most importantly, the way I see things. They held my head up for me when it was dropped down, and they will never know how much they helped me through the years. Last August, I got to see them in concert, and four months later, I got to meet them. When people ask me what my favorite memories are, I think of those astonishing events. I will forever be a fan girl.

Sometimes, when I don't realize it, I withdraw from listening to music. I always come back to certain songs and artists when I need them, but when I don't, they're non-existent to me. I used to feel guilty about this habit until I realized music isn't going anywhere. It will always be there waiting for you, and it is the one thing you can truly count on.
